GET 2010 OFF TO A GREAT START WITH THESE 5 QUICK TIPS...

I have to admit I am NOT one of those people who complains about Christmas – I love everything about it!  Family get-togethers, Christmas parties, choosing the perfect little gifts for my loved ones.  It’s a busy time, but it’s all good fun.

After the festive season has calmed down, it's the perfect time to focus on business planning for 2010 by tying up any loose ends, downing tools and reflecting on the year that has passed so quickly.  Your clients are taking holidays, the networking event calendar is empty, workshops are at a standstill…you may as well us the time to reflect, and start planning for 2010.

Tip # 1: Update your marketing plan

Your circumstances and short-term goals may have changed slightly during the year and your marketing plan will need to be updated to reflect those changes.  Make sure this document is kept up-to-date in order to keep you and your business on track.

Tip # 2: Archive!!

I know it sounds like a dirty word, but really, you will feel like a million dollars once those old files and boxes are out of your messy working space and stored out of sight.  Clearing clutter not only improves the efficiency of your physical working space, but also refreshes your mental wellbeing.

Tip # 3: Get your finances up-to-date

Whether that means making sure your tax receipts are in order, your final 2009 invoices have been sent out, the payment reminder process has been implemented or your banking is completed – start the year off by dedicating a half an hour a day getting these things under control, because you know once the work starts pouring in this task will fall to the bottom of the to-do list...

Tip # 4: Have a Spring clean in Summer!

One thing I really like to get stuck into at this time of the year is going through my office and sorting out those things I no longer need and donating them to charity.  For example…books, office stationery, furniture items, computer parts etc.  These things lay around collecting dust when they could be of use to someone else.  Not only does it clear up my office space, but it makes me feel good donating to a good cause!

Tip # 5: Spread some joy

It’s really important to stay connected to your clients at this time of year…out of sight is out of mind…I like to send my clients a little personalised Christmas card just to thank them for their ongoing support.  If you haven't managed time to get your Christmas cards out this year, just give your clients a quick call when you're back at work in 2010 to wish them a Happy New Year. Or, if they are in your area, do it in person and drop off a little gift!

If you would like any help with getting your office space organised, developing marketing materials, buying & wrapping client gifts or any other task you don’t have time to do…give us a call or drop us an email.  Our little elves would be happy to help.
