GOOD KARMA ADVERTISING - help yourself while helping others

Hi there! I can't believe it is nearing the end of August. I have been reflecting a little bit lately (perhaps brought on by my approaching wedding - a new phase in my life) and when I think back on what we have achieved at EVE over the past year I am amazed really. It's nice to take a step back every now and then and just reflect on what you have achieved in the last year. It's amazing what happens to you when you are open to new opportunities. I encourage you to spend a quiet moment writing a list of things you have achieved in the last 12 months...I bet you will surprise yourself.

Anyway, down to business...this issue, I'm wanted to try to navigate the digital TV 'revolution' that is slowly making its way into our living rooms each evening...the TV keeps asking us..."Are you Ready?".. Well are you? If you are not sure, never mind; by the end of this newsletter, you will know whether you are ready or not.

DIGITAL TV - ARE YOU READY?

You've probably seen the government's recent ad campaign on TV with the tag line "ARE YOU READY?" - preparing us all for the inevitable phasing out of analogue TV and the switchover to digital TV; scheduled to begin in 2010.

I for one needed some advice, and I found it in spades from my very own AV guru. And so I have decided to share his timely advice on getting your home and office 'READY' for the big switch to digital TV in Australia.

By the way, if you need help setting up your digital TV / audio visual system at home or on the office, please contact me to put you in touch with the AV guru. He is your one-stop-shop for everything audio visual.

Q: So...what is digital TV anyway?

A: The digital TV that the government talks about is the collection of free-to-air digital channels (ie channels 2, 7, 9, 10, SBS, 31) which are gradually being switched on. Some stations have already introduced digital-only channels such as Channel One on the Ten network, ABC2 on the ABC network and most recently, 'GO' on the Channel Nine network which was just launched last week. If you can view these channels already - then YOU ARE READY! If not, read on...

Q: When is the big 'switch' to digital TV happening in Australia?

A: The 'digital switchover' will be happening in stages from 2010 until 2013. Go to the government's 'Digital Ready' website to view an interactive map to see when your area will be switched to the digital TV signal.

Q: Can I use my current TV to view digital TV, or do I have to buy a new TV?

A: You can use your current television to receive the digital signal, however you may need to buy and connect to a digital set-top box. These can be relatively inexpensive these days and can be connected up to your current TV to view the digital channels on free-to-air TV. If you need to purchase a set-top box be sure to buy one from a reputable retailer who can offer you a warranty.

Q: If I want to buy a new TV, what do I need to look for to make sure it is 'READY' for digital TV?

A: You will have a number of choices when it comes to buying a new TV set. Some come with an inbuilt digital tuner and some do not. Some are in Standard definition, some are High Definition. The government's Digital Ready website details the new labelling system they have developed for TV and set-top box products to make buying these products more transparent for the buyer.

Q: Do I have to make the SWITCH?

A: Only if you want to be able to watch TV after the digital switchover! Eventually once the last Australian city or town is switched to digtal TV, there will be no analogue stations left to watch. So if you don't have a digital ready set-up, you will not be able to watch ANY television.

Want more information on the roll-out of digital TV? You can get it from the 'Free TV Australia' website (but stick around and read the rest of 'Petite Elite' first!)
